This project describes the construction and assembly of a prototype for one Pan-Tilt unit equipped with two digital cameras. The purpose of the unit is to control horizontal and vertical moments of the cameras and at the same time capture and send images from the cameras to a computer for image processing.
The Pan-Tilt unit is to be mounted on top of a wheelchair for location recognition. This requires the unit to be small and have a low weight. The aim is also to make the unit inexpensive. The report includes a description of the communication protocol between the unit and a Linux based computer, the design and construction of the necessary hardware and software.
