Multimedia applications are already supported over the Internet with application level adaptation mechanisms. However, wireless links have specific characteristics requiring that these adaptation mechanisms to be revisited.
In this paper we discuss the feasibility of an end-to-end solution to support video conferencing over the Internet with wireless links. This solution is based on receiver driven layered multicast with hierarchical data coding and transmission, and on application level forward error correction mechanisms. It is being implemented within the Rendez-Vous video conferencing application.
