3D Image Segmentation Implementation on FPGA Using EM/MPM Algorithm (ECE/EEE Project)

In this Project, 3D image segmentation is targeted to a Xilinx Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), and verified with extensive simulation. Segmentation is performed using the Expectation-Maximization with Maximization of the Posterior Marginals (EM/MPM) Bayesian algorithm. This algorithm segments the 3D image using Continue reading

Fuzzy Signal Detection in Multiple-access Ultra Wide Band Communication Systems (Electronics Project)

Ultra-wide band (UWB) communications transmits a wide bandwidth signal with an extremely low power spectral density. This property of UWB makes it possible to co-exist with the current narrowband communication systems operating at dedicated frequency bands. Ultra-wide band can also serve multiple users by using the Spread Spectrum (SS) technique. However, with the number of multiple users increasing, Continue reading

Performance Evaluation of Embedded Microcomputers for Avionics Applications (ECE/EEE Project)

Embedded microcomputers are used in a wide range of applications nowadays. Avionics is one of these areas and requires extra attention regarding reliability and determinism. Thus, these issues should also be born in mind in addition to performance when evaluating embedded microcomputers.

This master thesis suggests a framework for performance evaluation of two members of the PowerPC microprocessor family, namely the MPC5554 from Freescale and PPC440EPx from AMCC, and analyzes Continue reading

Micro-Network Processor – A Processor Architecture for Implementing NoC Routers (EEE/ECE Project)

Routers are probably the most important component of a NoC, as the performance of the whole network is driven by the routers’ performance. Cost for the whole network in terms of area will also be minimised if the router design is kept small. A new application specific processor architecture for implementing NoC routers is proposed in this master thesis, which will be called μNP (Micro- Network Processor). The aim is to offer a solution in which Continue reading

Evaluation of European SRAM-based FPGA Using the ESA VHDL IP-Core Library (Electronic Space Project)

Microelectronics have at all times been a complicated area in space technology, the radiation environment have always created heavy restriction. This is still true today, but development of new and better devices has steadily opened up this field for new applications.

FPGAs have been used in space for some time now, but that is mostly One-Time Programmable devices. Only a few reprogrammable FPGA have flown on real space missions, but in the near future this technology can Continue reading

PIC Based Automatic Solar Radiation Tracker for Maximum Solar Energy

The following document details the research and evelopment of an Automatic Solar radiation tracker. Fossil fuels are a relatively short-term energy source; consequently, the uses of alternative sources such as solar energy are becoming more wide spread. To make solar energy more viable, the efficiency of solar array systems must be maximized. A feasible approach to maximizing the efficiency of solar array systems is sun tracking. Proposed in this report is a system that Continue reading

Home Security System

This is a digital home security system with voice feature which can monitor room temperature, smoke, motion, and windows & doors.

The goal of this project is to utilize the after-market parts and build an integrated home security system. Besides traditional magnetic switch equipped on doors and windows, we have also incorporated temperature sensor, smoke detectors, Continue reading

Distributed search for balanced energy consumption spanning trees in Wireless Sensor Networks

Sensor networks are commonly used for security and surveillance applications. As sensor nodes have limited battery power, computing, and storage resources, the energy efficient security techniques are needed.

We provide a new heuristic approach to search for balanced and small weight routing spanning trees in a network. The approach is Continue reading

Energy Efficient Virtual MIMO Communication for Wireless Sensor Networks

Virtual multiple input multiple output (MIMO) techniques are used for energy efficient communication in wireless sensor networks. We investigate virtual MIMO for fixed and variable rates. We propose energy efficient routing based on virtual MIMO. The simulation results show that virtual MIMO based routing is more energy efficient as compared to SISO (single input single output) for larger distances.

In recent years, virtual MIMO has attracted a growing interest because of its energy efficiency in large field of networks. In virtual MIMO network, a group of sensors cooperate Continue reading

Human Area Networking

So far we have seen LAN, MAN, WAN, INTERNET & many more but here is new concept of “RED TACTON” which makes the human body as a communication network by name….HAN (Human Area Network).

NTT lab from Japan is currently testing & developing this revolutionary technology. Red Tacton is a new Human Area networking technology that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high-speed network transmission path. Red Tacton uses the minute electric field generated by human body as Continue reading
